Squid Game blev otroligt populär när den hade premiär på Netflix under hösten 2021. Naturligtvis har vi därför inte sett det sista av varumärket utan Netflix har bland annat spelat in en realityserie där deltagare får uppleva Squid Game på riktigt. Med undantaget att de (så vitt vi vet) inte blev mördade under spelen. Dock ska produktionen inte ha varit särskilt trevlig för deltagarna ändå, utan nu har flera deltagare klivit fram och berättat om de trauman och skador som inspelningen orsakat dem. Bland annat ska det röra sig om öroninflammationer efter att ha tvingats spela ”Red Light, Green Light” i tre minusgrader och utöver detta ska tävlingarna ha varit riggade.
10 contestants required medical attention for injuries they suffered while filming the reality show, chief among them being pneumonia, a herniated disc, a torn knee tendon, and an ear infection. According to IndieWire, contestants were asked to stand still while playing “Red Light, Green Light” at 26° Fahrenheit (-3° Celsius) weather in 30-minute increments during a nine-hour filming session.
In an incident three former contestants call the “38-second massacre,” a bunch of contestants had their blood squib packs go off and were simultaneously eliminated from the reality show. According to the contestants, the show’s producers eliminated them despite their having successfully completed a game with time to spare while they were reviewing the round’s drone-shot footage.
